Wedding Punch
Uplighting has become almost as prevalent as bouquets at weddings and wall washes add a great touch, but don’t forget that after the bride and groom say “I do,” someone is going to shout “let’s dance.” So if you really want to energize wedding guests and get them dancing, pack something like our Micro Series lasers in your tool chests, says Alfred Gonzales, American DJ’s National Sales Manager.  Here’s Alfred’s straight shooting advice on pumping up the excitement level at weddings.

Weddings are a mainstay of a lot of DJs’ businesses, but you think they can also be a little tricky with some special challenges – can you explain?
“Well there are really two distinct parts of a wedding that have different needs when it comes to lighting. On the one hand you want to create a subtle, sophisticated and romantic mood with uplighting and wall washes, which is great, but later on you need to get a higher energy light show going so the guests get on to the dance floor and have a good time.

“The challenge for many DJs is ‘how do I  carry all this lighting?’ The uplighting and washes take up a lot of space, so you want to complement them with exciting lights that are compact and lightweight. This makes transport and setup a lot  easier.”

What suggestions do you have for these compact exciting lights?
“I would recommend something in our Micro Series lasers.  These are very compact lights; for example our Micro Royal Galaxian weighs only 2 pounds (0.8 kg). It’s so small, it can fit in the palm of your hand; yet it can it can fill an entire dance floor with more than 200 red and blue laser patterns.”

Did you say red and BLUE laser patterns?
“Yes, this is one of the exciting things about this light. Blue lasers were always found only in higher priced units, but this is an affordable and compact  unit that has blue lasers.  Mixed with the red lasers, this creates a level of visual stimulation that gets people going. The thing is, you never could have gotten this effect with a light that is this compact and this affordable before. “

Do you need fog to make lasers work effectively at a wedding?
“No, the lasers work great with fog, but they work great without fog too.”

How would you use the lasers differently with or without fog?
“With fog, you would shine them over the crowd and the beams would create a beautiful effect playing off the fog. Without fog, you would shine the beams on the ceiling, behind you as the DJ or on a side wall. The sharp visual patterns of the lasers will attract attention and get the crowd going.”

Can you give us a few more details about the Micro Royal Galaxian?
“Sure – it’s equipped with two laser diodes – an 80mW (650nm) red laser, and a 60mW (450nm) blue laser – which produce bright, sharp beams that can be projected on the ceiling, walls or dance floor.  The red-hot and cool-blue beams create mesmerizing patterns, as they rotate, change and move to built-in programs, either in Auto or Sound Active mode – no external programming required!

“The Micro Royal Galaxian comes with its own RF wireless remote controller, which saves time and effort in setting up at weddings..  At the push of a button, you can change programs, control blackout, change colors (R, B, R+B, Random), control rotation (Clockwise, Counterclockwise, Random), and switch between Auto and Sound Active modes.”

What other Micro Series lasers can you tell us about?
“We have quite a few on our website with videos. One of my favorites is the Micro Hypnotic, which produces a captivating web-like pattern with red and green lasers. There’s also the Micro Galaxian, which is similar to the Royal Galaxian we just talked about only it produces red and green lasers, instead of red and blue. All of these fixtures are remote controllable, so they’re ideal for the busy DJ doing weddings.

“When you see the Micro Series in action, you appreciate what a great job they can do making your wedding light show complete, so it not only sets the right romantic mood for the bride and groom, but creates a lot of fun for all the guests too.”
