The Show Goes On
Who
could blame Brian Dowdle if he experienced jet lag? No sooner had our
intrepid Marketing Director touched down from the UK on his return from
the BPM Show, then he was off again to Las Vegas for LDI. Of course,
Brian was jet-lag free when we caught up to him right after LDI, the
result of his naturally sunny disposition and the outstanding success
ADJ enjoyed at both shows. In this interview he shares his show
experience.
You’ve been a busy man going from show to show lately….
“Yes,
it’s been a lot of fun, but hectic too – and I’m glad to be home for a
while now.”
So
how would you describe the two shows you were at recently?
“In a
word ‘gratifying.’ It made us all very proud and happy to see how people
reacted to us at BPM and LDI. As a company, we try very hard to
support our customers, back up what we sell with great service, take
input from all sources, and always follow up our promises with action –
so it was nice when people came up and praised our company and its core
values.”
People also praised your company’s products too, right?
“Oh
yeah –absolutely! The feedback that we got for our products at BPM and
LDI was just awesome. The two shows appeal to different markets; mobile
DJs in the case of BPM and lighting designers, installers and club
owners at LDI, but in both cases the product feedback we got was super
encouraging. In some cases, the same product was praised, but in
different configurations.”
Do
you have any examples?
“Sure, our new Freq was a big hit at BPM, because DJs liked how the Freq
Strobe Bars could generate a lot of pure lighting excitement as a strobe
effect. The visitors at LDI loved the Freq’s strobing capabilities too,
but they were more interested in the Freq Panel, because they saw what
they could do creating a stobe wall with a group of these panels.
Then,
in addition to certain product being popular at both shows, there were
also some big concepts and trends that everyone was talking about at
BPM and LDI.”
What
were some of those concepts?
“Well
two that come to mind right away are battery powered and wireless DMX
control. Both are concepts that everyone agrees are going to have major
impact on the course of lighting over the next few years. This impact is
going to be felt at all kinds of lighting applications, whether it’s DJ
or lighting designer oriented.”
How
did the enthusiasm for these concepts translate into product interest at
the two shows you were at?
“At
BPM, everyone was talking about our Mega Go Series. The fact that the
units in this series are battery powered was very important to people,
but the interest went beyond that; everyone who saw the
Mega Go Bar 50
and
Mega Go Par 64 at BPM was impressed by the vivid and brilliant
colors and bright light produced by theses units’ 10mm RGB LEDs.
“We
also saw a lot of interest in the Mega Go at LDI, but the buzz in Las
Vegas went beyond that; everyone was talking about our new WiFly Series
products that combine battery power with wireless DMX control. These
products are still a few months away from being shipped to dealers, so
we can’t give out too many details, but they have wireless DMX control
with built-in transceivers and other features that are really going to
make them stand out.”
When
do you expect these products to ship?
“Right now we’re looking at January and February.”
That’s around when you’ll be at a couple of other shows – right?
“Correct – we have NAMM in January and then it’s back to Las Vegas for
Mobile Beat in February. I’m sure the new WiFly Series products will be
talked about a lot at both of those shows, which is why I’m excited to
go to them – after I catch my breath for a few weeks!”
